Learn to Swim
We’d like to invite you to join us in the Every Child a Swimmer initiative. Fortunately, due to the efforts of Dr. Bill Kent, Chairman of the Board for the International Swimming Hall of Fame and a former member of the Keiser University Board of Trustees, a bill was passed that will help save lives throughout Florida. We are grateful that this bill received support from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his Cabinet, including Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez and Chief Financial Officer, Jimmy Patronis.
Keiser University is committed to the Every Child a Swimmer mission and ensuring Florida’s children are confident swimmers. Tragically, drowning is the No. 1 cause of accidental death from children 1-4 years old in Florida. The new Keiser University Aquatic Center will be an additional place in our community for children to learn the life-long and life-saving lesson of swimming.
About Every Child a Swimmer Legislation
The bill, which will be enacted during the 2021-22 academic school year, encourages parents to register their school-aged children for swim lessons by having public school systems in Florida distribute information on the important role water safety education plays in recreational swimming. The bill does not mandate or require swim lessons, but rather provides information to parents about local options for age-appropriate water safety courses and swim lessons, including classes offered for free or at reduced prices.
